    Alexander III to Ansketill de Ridale, knight, granting protection for his possessions, especially those bequeathed by his brother Walter de Ridale, namely the Whittons and Lillisleaf (Roxburghshire), and Brawby (North Riding of Yorkshire), and confirming the agreement between Ansketill and the priest Uchtred regarding Lillieleaf, negotiated and confirmed in writing by King Malcolm [IV] [Marritt].

    Justis petentium desideriis dignum est nos facilem prebere consensum et vota, quae a rationis tramite non discordant, effectu sunt prosequente complenda.
    Eapropter, dilecte in domino fili, tuis iustis postulationibus grato concurrentes assensu ea que Walterius de Ridale frater tuus testamentum in obitu suo faciens tibi noscitur reliquisse videlicet villas Wittunes, Lilescleve et Brahebi et cetera bona a quibuscunque iuste tibi collate, conventionem quoque inter te et Huctredum sacerdotem super villa de lillesclive mediante karissimo in Christo filio nostro M. illustri Scotthorum rege de utriusque partis assensu rationabiliter factam et autentico scripto eiusdem regis firmatam quemadmodum in eodem scripto contineri dinoscitur tibi et heredibus tuis auctoritate apostolice sedis integre confirmamus et presentis scripti patrocinio communimus.
    Statuentes ut nulli omnino hominum liceat hanc paginam nostre confirmationis infringere vel ei aliquatenus contraire. Si quis autem hoc attemptare presumpserit indignationem omnipotentis Dei et beatorum Petri et Pauli apostolorum eius se noverit incursurum.
